Access Bank Ghana has taken a major step to increase local ownership in the bank after its parent company sold more than 12 million shares to investors on the Ghana Stock Exchange.

The transaction involved the sale of 12,085,318 ordinary shares, representing 7.44 per cent of Access Bank Ghana’s total issued shares.

The sale was completed on July 15, 2026, by Access Bank PLC, the bank’s parent company, after receiving the necessary regulatory approvals, including a no objection from the Bank of Ghana.

A broad group of investors participated in the transaction, including pension funds, institutional investors and high net worth individuals.

The strong participation suggests that investors remain confident in the future performance and growth prospects of Access Bank Ghana.

What the Transaction Means

The sale is expected to increase the number of shares available for trading on the Ghana Stock Exchange.

When more shares are available to the public, it becomes easier for investors to buy and sell the stock. This is known as improved market liquidity.

The transaction will also reduce the concentration of shares held by the parent company and increase the level of local ownership in the bank.

Pearl Nkrumah, Managing Director of Access Bank Ghana, said the transaction forms part of the bank’s plan to deepen local ownership and improve trading activity in its shares.

“This transaction reflects our continued commitment to deepening local ownership and liquidity in our shares, consistent with our strategic priorities,” she said.

She added that the bank remains focused on using the scale it has built to create long term value for shareholders and other stakeholders.

Broader Shareholder Base

The transaction is expected to broaden Access Bank Ghana’s shareholder base by bringing more pension funds, institutions and individual investors into the company.

A wider shareholder base can improve the visibility of a listed company and strengthen investor participation in its shares.

It can also support more regular trading activity, which may make the stock more attractive to investors who prefer shares that are easier to buy and sell.

IC Securities served as the adviser and executing broker for the transaction.
