How the Nigerian market works
NGX trading runs fully electronically, with the All-Share Index (ASI) as the market's headline benchmark. Banking and industrial heavyweights dominate turnover, and the exchange extended its trading day to 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM WAT in April 2026 to deepen liquidity. Foreign investors participate through SEC-licensed Nigerian brokers, with currency conversion between naira and dollars a key consideration.
How to invest in NGX stocks
You need an account with a licensed Nigerian stockbroker and a Central Securities Clearing System (CSCS) account, which your broker opens for you. Diaspora investors can complete this remotely with most large brokers. Since June 2026 trades settle T+1 — one business day. Always confirm fees and FX handling with your broker before trading.
