Scancom PLC, popularly known as MTN Ghana, has confirmed that it has been served with court documents following the commencement of legal proceedings by Clydestone Ghana PLC.

In a market announcement issued on July 30, 2026, MTN Ghana said the case was filed before the High Court in Accra against Scancom PLC, MTN Group Limited and MobileMoney Fintech Limited.

The legal action follows an earlier regulatory announcement made by Clydestone Ghana on July 28, 2026.

According to MTN Ghana, the claim concerns Clydestone Ghana’s alleged role in the introduction of mobile money services in Ghana. The matters raised in the lawsuit are said to date back almost 20 years.

MTN Ghana confirmed that it had received the writ of summons and statement of claim but rejected the allegations made against the company.

The telecommunications company described the claims as being without merit and said it intends to contest the case fully.

MTN Ghana, however, indicated that it would not provide further comments on the substantive issues while the matter remains before the court.

MTN Says Operations Remain Unaffected

MTN Ghana assured shareholders, customers and other stakeholders that the legal proceedings have not affected its operations, services, financial performance, results or Mobile Money services.

MTN Ghana’s Mobile Money services are operated by MobileMoney Fintech Limited, one of the entities named in the lawsuit.

The company also stated that it would continue to comply with its disclosure obligations and update shareholders and the wider market if any material developments arise.

What This Means for MTN Ghana Investors

For investors, the announcement confirms that MTN Ghana intends to defend the case rather than accept Clydestone’s claims.

At this stage, MTN Ghana has not disclosed any financial provision, potential liability or expected financial impact from the lawsuit. The company has also maintained that the proceedings are not affecting its current performance or services.

The case is still at an early stage, and no court decision has been announced. Investors may therefore need to monitor future disclosures from MTN Ghana and Clydestone Ghana as the proceedings continue.

MTN Ghana trades on the Ghana Stock Exchange under the share code MTNGH. The announcement was signed by the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Blewett.
