Diesel and petrol to fall slightly while LPG sees sharp increase from May 1
Ghanaian consumers are set to experience another round of fuel price adjustments beginning May 1, 2026, with mixed outcomes expected at the pump. While some relief is coming for motorists using diesel and petrol, households that depend on LPG may have to pay more in the new pricing window.
According to updates from the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies, diesel is expected to record the biggest drop among the petroleum products, while petrol will also see a slight reduction. LPG, however, is projected to move in the opposite direction with a noticeable increase.
Diesel prices are forecast to fall by about 6.77%, potentially bringing the average retail price to around GHS15.87 per litre. Petrol is expected to reduce marginally by about 0.51%, with some fuel stations likely selling it at approximately GHS14.51 per litre, depending on location and operating costs.
On the other hand, LPG is expected to rise by about 10.41% per kilogramme. This increase is attributed to pricing adjustments that are now catching up after earlier delays in reflecting international market movements.
The Chamber explained that global oil prices fell during the pricing window, with crude oil dropping from about $129.80 per barrel to $113.80 per barrel. Refined petroleum products also recorded declines on the international market, with diesel leading the fall, followed by LPG and petrol.
Despite this global downward trend, the depreciation of the Ghana cedi during the same period reduced the overall impact of the price drops, influencing the final outlook for local fuel prices.
The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has set indicative price benchmarks for the period, pegging petrol at GHS13.25 per litre, diesel at GHS14.30 per litre, and LPG at GHS13.02 per kilogramme. Oil Marketing Companies, however, are expected to adjust their pump prices based on their individual cost structures and margins.
The NPA has also urged fuel retailers to strictly follow the Petroleum Products Pricing Guidelines to ensure consistency and fairness in the market.
For consumers, the new pricing window offers some relief for transport users through lower petrol and diesel costs. However, LPG users may feel the impact of higher cooking gas prices in the coming days.
The new prices officially take effect on May 1, 2026, and will remain in place until the next review cycle.
